
Crowtown was established in 1993 as a home studio for Edmonton musicians Dale Ladouceur,Barrie Nighswander and myself, Bill Hobson. When we formed the group The Mavens we wanted to record our projects in a more casual, ongoing way. To accomplish this we decided to build Crowtown and produce our own CDs at home. Why Crowtown? Well, when we were building our little studio Dale was caring for a young crow that was injured and couldn't fly. She named it Solomon after her first dog. Solomon has since flown the coop but he inpired the name for the place. It also rhymes with Motown which is a record company/studio that has some similarities to our place. Motown was in a house and the studio was in the basement. Dale likes to say, "you've heard of Motown?, this is a little farther north".

The first official customer at Crowtown was our buddy Lester Quitzau. While most of his first CD, "Keep On Walkin" was recorded at the Garneau United Chuch by him and I, he did record two songs here while we were under construction.
